Learn to Design and Run Your Own Web Hosting Server and Services

LMU Extension introduces: “Designing and Running Your Own Web Hosting Server and Service.

In this course, students will learn how to design, develop and implement a stable web-hosting server in your own home costing less than $75. The course will provide hands-on instructions on how to build web-servers, maintain it and update it. All required materials, including the web server computer will be provided.

Web servers are a set of computer databases that stores a website’s component files (e.g. HTML documents which include images, CSS style sheets, JavaScript files, fonts, and videos) and delivers these files to end user devices. Website hosts are essential as they provide the software, security, support, and bandwidth that will ultimately connect your website to the Internet.

This multipart course will include:
-Introductions to web servers
-Preparing the hardware
-Installing the server operating system
-Installing the web content management system
-Media creation and publishing

The course will be led by Dr. Nazmul Ula; Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciencbe5122672e7084ddf36fceb07dd940d1443224623_l.jpgce, and Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and External Affairs at the LMU Seaver College of Science and Engineering. Dr. Ula has presented papers in the VLSI design and simulation areas at national and international conferences. He has collaborative research projects with several universities and companies. Among his research interests are nanotechnology and open source computing platforms; he is a licensed amateur radio operator
